Step by Step Upgrade Instructions

1.        Install the new RentPlus software:

·         Insert the new RentPlus CD into your CD-ROM drive.  Select Run from the Windows Start Menu and type D:\Setup and press Enter (substitute a different drive letter if necessary).  Follow the on-screen instructions to copy the new RentPlus software to your system.   When setup is complete DO NOT startup RentPlus.

If the installation displays an error message similar to “Data Access Components cannot be installed” you may disregard the message. It means that it is already installed on your computer.

·         Run Upgrade to copy your data into the new version

With the new RentPlus CD still in your CD-ROM drive, select Run from the Windows Start Menu and type D:\Upgrade\Upgrade.bat and press Enter (substitute a different drive letter if necessary).  After a moment, the upgrade screen will be shown. Select the database file to upgrade and click Go to begin the upgrade process. Note: normally, the default database shown in the upgrade screen is the file you wish to upgrade, so just click Go. Multi-user and Multi-database users - see instructions at the end of this document.

2.       Run RentPlus.

Select Begin RentPlus from the Programs Menu of the Windows Start Menu. Enter your password (your passwords are preserved) to begin. If a message is displayed that says it has been so many days since RentPlus was last run, you will be prompted if you want to continue with RentPlus.  Answer <Yes> to this question.

If you get a message when starting RentPlus that a default general ledger account is missing:

You may need to set one or more default general ledger accounts before you can continue to use RentPlus. If you get this message, click Ok to open the General Ledger Setup Wizard, then click Next until you reach the page for Default Accounts for Accounts Receivable. Select accounts to be used for each of the categories. If necessary, click View Chart of Accounts to create any new general ledger accounts.

This completes the upgrade process.  You are now ready to use RentPlus on a daily basis.

Instructions for RentPlus Multiple Database or Multi-User

Multi-user

Install the new RentPlus CD on each of the workstations that run RentPlus.

Multi-database

Run upgrade for each data file that needs to be upgraded.

Installation of the new version software replaces the rent_wk.mdb file in the RentPlus folder. However, linked tables use a unique copy of this file, which is NOT replaced by the Installation program. For example, if you link to \\server\c\rentplus\data\MyData.mdb it creates a copy of rent_wk.mdb called wkMyData.mdb in the RentPlus folder on the workstation. These ‘wk’ files need to be replaced manually, following the procedure outlined below.

You know if you have this problem if you are unable to view the Vacant Report by Size report in RentPlus.

Correcting procedure

1)     Install the new version on all workstations running RentPlus.

2)     Run upgrade on all of the linked databases. This can be done from any workstation, and only needs to be done once for each database.

3)     Open the RentPlus program to the initial screen and unlink all of the remote databases.

4)     Navigate to the RentPlus folder on the local drive (usually C:\RentPlus) and delete the file(s) named wkXXXX_be.mdb (these files are created when you have renamed your data file and/or are using linked data).

5)     Re-link all remote databases.

6)     Restart RentPlus with each database. This will create a new file called wkXXXX_be.mdb (where XXXX is the name of the linked database) from the rent_wk.mdb file. When open, run the Vacant Report by Size report to test if this procedure has been done correctly.
